How its done

“Neck lift only” surgery involves incisions behind the ear and in the scalp. This is useful for treating changes in the neck where the face itself is not heavy. Neck lift involves incisions, elevation of the skin and the use of sutures to pull the deeper tissues tighter.

This may be also accompanied by an incision under the chin in order to tidy the sagging tissues directly under the chin and above the Adam's apple. Neck lift can be done at any age and sometimes is done in a younger patient who has excessive loose tissues due to familial factors. Some people see these changes in their parents and wish to have surgery to prevent those problems from setting in.

Liposuction is often an accompaniment of facelift and neck lift. Fatty tissue can be removed from under the neck or around the jowl region to help provide refinement and sculpting where necessary. It is often done by itself or in conjunction with these procedures. A small cannula with a hole and suction is used to pull away the fatty tissue. Fat cells cannot multiply. Once fat is removed it cannot come back but if someone gains weight fat will develop in other areas where the fat cells are more prevalent.
The liposuction incisions are 3 mm in length and become virtually invisible over time.

RISKS

In expert hands neck lift complications are very uncommon. The recovery time can be a little frustrating with bruising and some swelling, which may require 2 weeks to settle.
There may be some bruising and there will be some discomfort and feelings of tightness. Some people find they are numb around the jaw under the ear and this can be present for some months. In the long term this generally has not been a major problem and most patients find they obtain normal sensation back within a few months.
