Nose Surgery - Faqs

It is Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery) painful?

Surprisingly most patients comment that nose surgery is not painful. More people are concerned about having a dry throat because their nose is blocked and they have to breathe through their mouth.

Does the nose change over time?

The final result in rhinoplasty can take 6 months to 1 year to appear. This is a normal part of healing. In fact, scar tissue develops within the area of surgery in every patient. In some people the scar tissue becomes a little thicker and this appears to change the shape of the nose a little. In the postoperative visits Mr Golchin will evaluate whether medicines and other treatments are required to manipulate the scar tissue to your advantage and give you a better shape to the nose.

Can we guarantee the outcome of Nose Surgery?

Unfortunately no. However our philosophy of having comprehensive pre-operative discussions with advanced computer imaging of possible outcomes of the proposed nose surgery ensures that your concerns are noted and understood. We will advise you regarding the surgical and aesthetic possibilities. Not everybody’s nose can be turned into their favourite celebrity's nose due to differences in the basic shape of the nose cartilage and thickness of individual nasal skin. The actual surgery only controls about 95% of the outcome, the persons healing determine the rest.

Is there significant bleeding after nose surgery?

Any operation can be accompanied by bleeding. The incidence of bleeding after rhinoplasty requiring treatment would be very low, probably about 2%. This would be in the first week and very rarely it can occur after that time. In fact most patients have very little blood loss and once the nose is healed there should be no increased risk of bleeding at all.

Is rhinoplasty better done as day surgery or overnight stay?

Mr Golchin will advise you whether your individual case is best completed as a day surgery or with an overnight stay. Most patients can be acommodated safely as day surgery cases. In some cases Mr Golchin will advise an overnight stay where the proposed surgery is more extensive, perhaps associated with other conditions and recovery may be complicated.
