Longer lasting cosmetic dermal filler treatments
New generation of longer lasting soft tissue injectable dermal fillers are now available.
Dermal filler products such as Aquamid® injectable implants are transparent, injectable hydrogel implant composed of 97.5% apyrogenic water bound to 2.5% cross-linked polyacrylamide.
Polyacrylamides are used in medical products such as soft contact lenses & implant materials. Polyacrylamides are used in the production of drinking water and in the cosmetics industry (e.g. hair colouring products, creams, and lotions) and in paper production.
Aquamid® is stable, and biologically inactive, non-toxic, non-biodegradable. It cannot pass through biological membranes because of the large molecular size and its hydrophere nature of the cross-linked polyacrylamide.
Aquamid® indicated for facial and body contour correction and reconstruction.
Anti-wrinkle treatment including Forehead frowns, wrinkles, lines, folds from nose to mouth, depressed corners of the mouth, Lip augmentation and contouring, Chin augmentation, Nasal correction / Rhinoplasty
and Cheekbone augmentation.
Aquamid® is non-resorbable and does not disappear. The polyacrylamide used in Aquamid® is chemically stable; its cross-linked structure and big molecular size mean it cannot migrate. Moreover, no enzyme or bacterium can metabolise the polyacrylamide used. Retrospective studies have shown the long-lasting results for up to 9 years.
Any dermal filling injection may cause transient pain, oedema, redness, minor haematoma etc. However the main risk associated with this
dermal filler product is the risk of infection, which may be difficult to treat. The risk can be minimised by a thorough assessment of the patient, good techniques and strict follow up of the post treatment protocol.
